Special Olympics Torch Passes Through Keyport, Aberdeen, and Old Bridge

Members of the Keyport, Aberdeen and Old Bridge Police Departments participated in the 29th annual NJ Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run on Friday, June 8.

The hot sun beat down as Keyport passed the torch to Aberdeen near the Seaboard Marine, but the group was all smiles as they jogged the stretch of Route 35 to Old Bridge.

P.O. Matthew Lloyd coordinated Aberdeen's stretch of the torch run. P.O. Anthony Valentino, P.O. Ray Campbell, P.O. Vito Turchiano, Special Officer Michael Scarpa, Dispatcher Adam Saber and Dispatcher Briana Hedges participated in the run, while P.O. Marty Walsh and P.O. John Zeller guided traffic safely around the runners.

Shortly after County Road, Aberdeen passed the torch on to Det. Mike Machen, Det. Mike Blahota, and Patrolman Tim Snee from the Old Bridge Police Department.

Altogether, the flame travels 750 miles through the Garden State to end at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, where it ignites the Opening Ceremonies of Summer Games on June 8 at 7:30 p.m.
