Matawan Mayor Reflects on 2012, Looks to Improve Efficiency & Grow Business Community in 2013

Matawan Mayor Paul Buccellato reflected on 2012 and looked forward to 2013 during his report at the reorganization meeting held on Tuesday, Jan. 1. 

Buccellato recalled the devastation of Hurricane Sandy to local electrical infrastructure and the frustration people felt after days in the dark with limited information.

"Dealing with the aftermath of these weather events posed challenging to all of us, and I know our borough, the OEM (office of emergency management), fire department, police department and DPW (department of public works), responded with professionalism and rose the occasion," he said. "I know first hand that patience ran thin, but we remained a cohesive community."

According to Buccellato, the borough has been evaluating their response to emergencies like Hurricane Sandy and will continue to make improvements. 

Moving forward, Buccellato wants to evaluate all positions within the borough to ensure efficiency and a quality customer experience for taxpayers, he said. 

The council also plans to instruct the planning board to reconsider an old ordinance that is "restrictive" to potential new businesses, Buccellato said.
