One Car Accident on GSP in Aberdeen Closed Express Lanes

Lanes now open, condition of driver and passenger unknown

Update: As of about 4:15 p.m., the express lanes were open.

A one-car accident on the Garden State Parkway near milemarker 120 in Aberdeen Township temporarily closed all northbound lanes Thursday afternoon.

A white four-door sedan was driving on the local northbound lanes, according to NJ State Police. After the accident, the vehicle came to rest on the guardrail, with the front driver's side wheel resting in the shoulder of the express lane.

There were two people in the car, according to NJ State Police. One was ejected from the vehicle and remained in an ambulance on the scene for about 45 minutes until a Medevac helicopter arrived and flew the person to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Another person in the vehicle sat wrapped in a blanket on the side of the Parkway as he or she was comforted by EMS workers.

It was unclear if it was the driver or passenger who was ejected from the car.

Despite the rain, several local residents and nearby employees gathered on the Cliffwood Avenue overpass and watched until the victim was taken from the scene.

Police have not yet released the condition or identity of the driver or passenger.

All northbound lanes were closed following the accident. Local northbound lanes are now open, however the express lanes remain closed.

NJ State Police, South Aberdeen EMS and Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Company  responded to the scene.
