New Matawan Borough Police Chief Sworn In

Watch Acting Chief Jason Gallo take his oath of office.

Jason Gallo placed his left hand on the bible and raised his right hand as his wife and four children held the bible. Line by line, he repeated the oath of office after Mayor Paul Buccellato and in under two minutes, Gallo completed his three-year journey from commanding officer to acting police chief to the the Matawan Borough Police Chief.

Gallo, a police officer in Matawan for the past 21 years, was appointed acting chief in April. He began his career in law enforcement as a special officer in Keyport in 1991. Gallo served as the commanding officer over the last three years, while the borough sorted out its differences with James Alston, the now retired police chief who was demoted and later reinstated after a series of legal battles.

Chief Gallo then thanked his friends, family, fellow officers and the residents of Matawan for supporting him to this point.
