Matawan Office of Emergency Management: JCP&L Says They're Ready for the High Winds

JCP&L says they have extra staff ready in case of power outages overnight.

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is preparing for possible damage caused by high winds tonights, according to a Facebook post by the Matawan Office of Emergency Management. 

OEM Coordinator Sgt. Thomas Falco posted information provided to the department by the utility company, which highlights their emergency response plan. 

According to the post, JCP&L has additional dispatchers and analysts staffing the regional dispatch and are bringing in additional line, substation and forestry personnel. The company says they have also notified contractors that they may be required to assist with storm restoration over the next several days.

Winds are expected to be between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 60, according to the National Weather Service. The wind advisory is in place until 4 a.m.

Customers who lose power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888- 544-4877) to report their outage. In the event of severe weather, customers should immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or their local police or fire department.

Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
