Indictment Brought in Sexual Assault of Aberdeen Teen Girl

A Plainfield man has been charged with assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

A Plainfield man was indicted Wednesday in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old Aberdeen Township girl on two separate occasions.

A Monmouth County Grand Jury voted to indict Jerrish Halsey, 39, on two counts of second degree sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual contact and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the county prosecutor's office. The charges were filed by Aberdeen Township police.

The indictment alleges that between February and April 2011, Halsey "did commit the crime of Sexual Assault, by committing an act of sexual penetration with [the minor], while using physical force or coercion."

Halsey is a tier 2 sex offender in New Jersey, according to New Jersey Sex Offender Internet Registry. He was sentenced in 2009 for sexually assualting a girl at her residence, the registry said.
