Accused Monmouth County Burglar in Custody

A male suspect wanted for burglaries in multiple municipalities turned himself in Aug. 6

A man wanted for his alleged involvement in burglaries in multiple towns turned himself in to police Saturday, Aug. 6.

Lt. Ben Smith said Nickolas Scarpellino, 19, of Matawan, called the Matawan Borough Police Department and told authorities he was at his father's apartment in Aberdeen Township. Police said Scarpellino's friends encouraged him to turn himself in.

Matawan Det. Joseph Lovallo responded to the call and made the arrest Saturday evening.

According to Smith, Scarpellino is currently being charged with resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and theft in connection with four car burglaries in Matawan.

In addition to his alleged Matawan crimes, police believe Scarpellino and Sean Finley, 19, also of Matawan, are linked to more burglaries in Aberdeen Township, Manalapan, Spotswood, Marlboro Township and Middletown.

Both men were wanted by the New Jersey State Police in connection with the burglaries of 13 boats in Keyport. Two weapons stolen from the boats were recovered in Finley's home after his arrest. Scarpellino faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police have been searching for Scarpellino since he allegedly the evening of Aug. 3.
