Thousands of residents of Matawan, Aberdeen and Keyport lost power when Hurricane Sandy rolled through the area on Monday, Oct. 29. Seven days later, many are still in the dark.
The JCP&L power outage map shows that 4,309 of 6,986 customers in Aberdeen are still without power, 3,004 of 4,967 customers in Matawan are still without power, and 552 of 3,642 customers in Keyport are still without power. The outage map also shows that 12,989 customers in Old Bridge are still in the dark.
Please note that the term "customers" refers to one household or one business, not the number of individual people without power.
According to the JCP&L website, crews have been working non-stop since Monday, Oct. 29 to restore power to the region. The website explaines that crews must first repair transmission lines and substations before specific lines can be repaired. They estimate that more than 6,000 workers are in the area including linemen, forestry workers and support personnel.
Local politicians and police departments are not able to restore power. For power restoration information, the best place to call is JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115.
