Outages Decrease in Matawan-Aberdeen Area, However Thousands Still in the Dark

As temperatures drop, many residents are still without power.

Editor's note: This article was updated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 to reflect the updated number of outages in the area.

Thousands of residents of Matawan, Aberdeen and Keyport lost power when Hurricane Sandy rolled through the area on Monday, Oct. 29. Seven days later, many are still in the dark.

The JCP&L power outage map shows that 4,309 of 6,986 customers in Aberdeen are still without power, 3,004 of 4,967 customers in Matawan are still without power, and 552 of 3,642 customers in Keyport are still without power. The outage map also shows that 12,989 customers in Old Bridge are still in the dark.

Please note that the term "customers" refers to one household or one business, not the number of individual people without power.

According to the JCP&L website, crews have been working non-stop since Monday, Oct. 29 to restore power to the region. The website explaines that crews must first repair transmission lines and substations before specific lines can be repaired. They estimate that more than 6,000 workers are in the area including linemen, forestry workers and support personnel.

Local politicians and police departments are not able to restore power. For power restoration information, the best place to call is JCP&L at 1-800-662-3115.

Is your power back? Let us know where power has been restored by posting in the comment section below.

Anyone know if Bridgepointe in Laurence Harbor is up yet? Old Bridge was supposed to be powering up from west end of town to east, and everything west of Laurence Harbor is up and running in O.B. as of last night.

I live in Cliffwood Beach and am still without power. I appreciate what the linemen are doing. I dare not complain about this inconvenience when I see what my neighbors are dealing with. What I DO NOT appreciate is the mayor of Aberdeen calling in to 101.5 and bragging about how well his town handled the storm and that he had 80% of his towns power restored. This was 3 days ago. According to JCP&l at the time only 30% of Aberdeen was up. Aside from that, he never evacuated Cliffwood Beach, a known flood zone. He has done nothing to update us as to power restoration or help provided by the town. My first text was 5 days after the storm. There is no police protection amongst our dark streets. gov Christie's curfew is not being enforced. It's a disgrace that he not only left us in the dark, but put himself on a high seat and gave himself a pat on the back for "the great job he did". I'm insulted and disgusted with this town right now.

The mayor dropped the ball here shows that he doesnt care about residents in Aberdeen. No communication whatsoever. Anyone going to the town hall meeting tomorrow?

Just got a call back from a JCP&L supervisor (the unreaceables, as I have taken to calling them). She left a voicemail stating my power may be back on tonight. Not sure how that's possible since our Governor mandated the crews stop working due to the incoming storm... I live in the Main Street area of Matawan.

Good to hear about Main St. Feel bad for anyone else still powerless and home with this Nor'easter. Also yes, take it slow driving... Was probably down to 20mph on the parkway at times.

I just got home to Matawan from work in Elizabeth. Drive slow and careful. The snow is heavier here and visibility is getting worse. The accumulation is insane. Wet and heavy. Prayers to all.
