Matawan Announces Hurricane Irene Road Closures and Curfews

The Office of Emergency Management issued a statement at 6 p.m.

The Matawan Office of Emergency Management and the Office of the Mayor issued a statement at 6 p.m. Saturday night announcing road closures and a driving curfew as Hurricane Irene blows closer.

According to the statement, Aberdeen Road will be closed as of 6 p.m. between Main Street and Matawan Ave.

Police may close Ravine Dr. from Washington Ave. to Main Street and Matawan Ave. from Marc Dr. to Ravine Dr. if they begin to flood.

A Travel Ban prohibiting all vehicular traffic throughout the Borough will go into effect at 11 p.m. Saturday night, according to the statement.

The statement also asks that residents remain in contact with their neighbors, especially if they are elderly or live alone.
