Hunt for Ghosts at Burrowes Mansion in Matawan

Take a tour with a docent or search with paranormal specialists

All old houses go bump in the night. Stairs creak, floorboards moan and drafts blow through aging windows.

But do 289-year-old houses whisper sayings like, "Be gone," "Are you the Corn King," or "Your son is dead,"?

Typically no, but those are just some claims of paranormal activity experienced at the Burrowes Mansion on Main Street in Matawan, made by paranormal investigators with EVP voice recordings as evidence and by those who have visited the Mansion for other reasons, according to Matawan Historical Society member Al Savolaine.

The only way to really determine whether or not these claims are true is to see for yourself.

The first and third Sunday of every month, including this Sunday, Oct. 21, the borough offers tours from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. by a docent. Guests will have an opportunity to see the many rooms in the home, hear the history behind them, and learn a little bit about the historical figures that live on in the mansion. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person over 12 years old.

A tour during the daytime however might not give you the best glimpse into the paranormal. Luckily, you can tag along during an investigation of paranormal activity at the mansion on Saturday October 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. led by members of The Specter Inspectors.

There are only 20 tickets available for the investigation, so make sure to contact the Matawan Historical Society soon to reserve your spot. Tickets are $50 each. Additional information and tickets can be found at http://www.the-specter-inspectors.com
