Update: Coastal Flood Warning Remains in Effect in Matawan-Aberdeen Area Thursday

Last night was a windy one in Matawan and Aberdeen, briefly causing over 1,000 power outages to the two communities. And although the area is waking up to find themselves relatively unscathed, a coastal flood warning remains in effect, particularly at high tide, along the Bayshore.

The hazardous weather outlook also remains, but the high wind advisory and winter weather advisory are no longer in effect.

Snow was originally in the forecast overnight, however the National Weather Service (NWS) is now predicting that Thursday may be a messy one with a wintry mix of rain and snow throughout the day. The NWS says one to three inches of snow accumulation is possible Thursday night.

Friday's forecast is already looking much brighter, with a chance of rain and snow that will become all rain before 10 a.m., gradually fading into a cloudy day with a high of 44 degrees and a mostly sunny weekend.

Be Prepared

The coastal flooding advisory warns residents of low-lying areas near Raritan Bay or local creeks and tributaries may experience flooding, particularly during high tide. In Aberdeen, this may spell trouble for Lakeshore Drive near the Whale Creek Bridge and Route 35 between County Road and Cliffwood Avenue. In Matawan, flooding may be seen on High Street. Drivers are cautioned to never drive through flooded roads and to heed road blocks and warning signs.
