Matawan Reflects Officers, Volunteers and Civilians Lost on Sept. 11

The borough honored the first responders and civilians killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Matawan Borough fire, police and first aid squad laid wreaths at Memorial Park on Wednesday evening to honor the lives lost twelve years ago on Sept. 11.

Residents observed as the wreaths were laid and listened as a solemn bell toll rang for police officers, first aid members, firefighters and civilians killed in the terrorist attacks that day.

"This day will forever be etched in our hearts and minds," said Mayor Paul Buccellato while addressing the public. "We must gather on this day each year so future generations will remember."

The service was organized by Washington Engine Capt. Chris Lambros, who heads the memorial committee.
