Man Turns Himself In To Matawan Police After Barricading Himself in Tree Haven Apartment

Local and county police closed Ravine Drive from Matawan Road to Middlesex Road during the incident.

A man with a gun barricaded in his Tree Haven apartment on Ravine Drive in Matawan turned himself into police without incident at about 9:40 p.m., according to Lt. Ben Smith.

The Monmouth County Emergency Responce Team (MOCERT), a team of specially trained tactical officers that operates under the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, responded to the scene to assist in negotiating with the man.

There were no hostages in the apartment during negotiations, Smith said.

Ravine Drive was closed during the incident, which began around 6:30 p.m., from the intersection of Matawan Avenue to the intersection of Middlesex Road.

The Matawan Borough Police, the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, the Aberdeen Township Police, the Keyport Borough Police, the Marlboro Township Police and the Matawan First Aid & Rescue Squad all responded to the scene,
