Man Struck by Train Near Aberdeen-Matawan Station Dies, Authorities Say
The 57-year-old was an Aberdeen resident, according to a NJ Transit spokesperson.
The man who was struck by a New Jersey Transit train as it entered the Aberdeen-Matawan Station Wednesday has died, according to NJ Transit spokesperson Courtney Carol.
William Burns, 57, of Aberdeen was hit by a North Jersey Coast Line train traveling toward New York City at about 1:25 p.m. on July 31.
About 125 passengers were on board the train, NJT Spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said Wednesday. No one on board reported injuries and passengers were transferred to another train.
Witnesses reported seeing Burns near the tracks as the train approached, according to Snyder.
"Eye witness accounts indicate the trespasser was hiding behind a junction box along the railroad's right of way and jumped in front of the train as it approached the station," she said.
Burns initially survived the incident but was pronounced dead at the hospital later that afternoon, Carol said.
