The Aberdeen Township Council recently introduced local legislation rehashing a redevelopment plan concerning over 60 acres of land surrounding the Aberdeen-Matawan NJ Transit Train Station. The Aberdeen Township Planning Board will hold a public hearing about the supplemental and updated preliminary investigation report designating the land surrounding the train station as an area in need of redevelopment. According to Planning Board Secretary Maxine Rescorl, not much has changed in this report. The original investigation was done in 1999, and the township council and the planning board felt it was important to update the survey before moving forward. The purpose of the public hearing is to hear comments from all interested parties regarding the supplemental and updated report, and the Planning Board may take action to adopt the report. The Aberdeen Township Council plans to discuss the Aberdeen Commerce and Transportation Center Redevelopment Area, better known as the transit village, during the workshop portion of the council's regular action meeting Tuesday, Dec. 6. According to the meeting agenda, the council will hear a presentation from Silver Oak Properties, Inc. Aberdeen originally named Silver Oak as the redeveloper in November of 2002 and has repeatedly reaffirmed their appointment, most recently with Resolution No. 2011-97 at the council's Aug. 15, 2011 regular action meeting.
