Matawan Carvel is a Readers' Choice Favorite

And, yes, the Matawan Friendly's is gone but clearly not forgotten

Congratulations to Carvel in Matawan for emerging as the clear Patch favorite in this week's Reader's Choice survey of ice cream and frozen yogurt places in Matawan, Aberdeen and Holmdel. The popular soft ice cream location on Rt. 34 drew more than 150 votes. A very unusual honorable mention goes to the memory of a Friendly's restaurant that used to be just down the road, on Rt. 34, but is no more. Yes, we need to remove it from our directory but it was fun to watch Friendly's devotees paying their respects with more than 250 votes. They may also have had in mind two nearby Friendly's, in Hazlet, on Rt. 35, and Old Bridge, on Ferry Road.  Voting in our unscientific poll ended at 9 a.m. Friday but you can still add reviews of your favorites…

H&R Block of Aberdeen is the Patch Favorite Tax Preparer

Congratulations as well to three others in our survey.

Income tax time is not exactly fun time and our Readers Choice poll this week on favorite tax preparers did not get much love. We had only 15 votes but four of them went to H&R Block of Aberdeen so we're declaring them the Patch favorite. Congratulations as well to Boscia & Boscia (Matawan), Linda Pressler, C.P.A. (Matawan) and Joe Bonfiglio (Holmdel), for getting three votes each. And hey, to all of you whose tax preparers got you a refund or lowered your payment, let them know you appreciate them.

Mahzu is the best! Huge, fresh slices of sashimi with great service and friendly staff! The managers are always around to greet their guests and ensure that we are taken care of. It's also BYOB venue, which needless to say.. AWESOME!! If it's not too busy, they let kids feed their koi fish which the kids definitely enjoy doing.   more ›
