After numerous water main breaks in Strathmore this weekend, water officials came to explain and answer any questions.
Officials from New Jersey American Water were present at the Aberdeen Township Council meeting Jan. 15 in order to answer questions about the series of water main breaks in Strathmore over the weekend. Mayor Fred Tagliarini estimates that there were at least 9 breaks between Friday night and Sunday night in the F-section, I-section, O-section, C-section and on Lloyd Road near the N-section. "There were at least five in the F-section alone. I think nine is a very safe number. New Jersey American Water customers in Monmouth County are now free to water their lawns any time of day, although residents are still restricted to an odd/even schedule. The utility lifted restrictions today that had been in place since July 12 limiting outdoor water usage to 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Demands on New Jersey American Water's system have stabilized, utility officials said, although they warned that significant increases in water demand could spark stricter guidelines. "A time of day approach was used to allow time for the system to recover between the established demand periods," said Stephen P. Schmitt, vice president of operations. “Our time of day usage monitoring over the past two weeks indicates that demands …

A water main failure around 12:45 p.m. at the Swimming River Reservoir has caused water outages in parts of Holmdel, and could potentially affect up to 55,000 users in the region, said Barnes. The mains collapsed at at the company’s Swimming River Water Treatment Plant in Tinton Falls, on the Middletown border. These sections of strathmore were built in the 60's. the rep from NJAW should do his homework a little better before he speaks. It seems that all they can do is give lip service instead of fixing the problems. These breaks happen way to frequently and should have been addressed years ago. The town will find a way to give them a pass, because they forget who they actually work for.   more ›
