An annual report on child well being in New Jersey found that Monmouth County saw a drop in juvenile arrests and an increase in child care options for parents
Monmouth County saw a rise in child poverty but a drop in juvenile arrests, according to the annual New Jersey Kids Count rankings, a report on child well being in the state. The rankings measure progress in improving the lives of children in various critical areas including child health and early care and education. This year, Monmouth County remained steady at 6th place. The well being of Monmouth County children progressed in several areas, including more women receiving early prenatal care, a drop in juvenile arrests and births to young females and an increase in child care options for parents. Roadwork underway ahead of snow arrival
What has started as a wet storm should turn to snow sometime over the night and crews have already set out to work on the roads in Monmouth County. That work has included applying a salt brine to the roads to prevent them from freezing according to a press release from the county. Crews will also be using rock salt on the roads as the snow comes. Freeholder Director Thomas Arnone said the county is being proactive as the county waits to see what the full affect of the storm will be. "We prepare for storms well in advance," he said. "Our snow room is activated and we are monitoring the storm's progress throughout the day and into the weekend." Arnone said there will be "a full complement of crews out clearing the county roads." In Freehold Overcrowded Borough classrooms have made their way into the board room. A presentation at last night’s Borough Council meeting from the Beta Charter School was given to the Council and community members to further explain how a charter school could benefit overpopulated Borough schools. Richard Ginn, a founder of Beta Charter, and Borough resident, gave a presentation to the Council and community on the benefits a charter school could give the Borough. The presentation came with mixed reviews and over 21 comments online. In Freehold At a Borough Council meeting earlier this week, the council passed a resolution that backed the Borough Board of Education decision to pass the charter school legislation also known as Senate Bill 458. The bill now requires communities to vote on the building of charter school where before, the Commissioner of Education could force communities to support an unlimited number of Charter Schools. In Manalapan: Public testimony was heard regarding the new amendment to Manalapan Township's Master Plan which would allow car dealerships in the township in some zones along the Rt. 9 corridor. More than 120 residents turned out to a marathon public meeting Thursday where two pieces of local legislation were introduced, paving the way for a potential sale of four acres of land in a densely populated area of town on the Hazlet border, and up to 12 acres of preserved Cross Farm, near the Colts Neck side.
