Matawan Regional HS Volleyball Tournament Raises Over $1400 for Restore the Bayshore

The high-energy tournament pitted high school students, staff and the Matawan and Aberdeen PBA's against one another.

The Matawan Regional High School student council volleyball tournament raised over $1,400 for Restore the Bayshore, a local charitable organization that supports Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.  The event brought in $1,486 through admission tickets, a 50/50 raffle and Restore the Bayshore merchandise that the student council sold, according to MRHS teacher Marc Komito. The winner of the 50/50 raffle chose to donate the winnings back to the cause, he said. The high-energy tournament was a Round Robin style competition between high school students, faculty, Aberdeen PBA Local #163 and Matawan PBA Local #179. Friday: Charity Volleyball Tournament to Benefit Restore the Bayshore

On March 8, 2013, beginning at 6:30 pm in the main gymnasium, the Matawan Regional HS student council will be hosting a charity volleyball tournament.

Cheer on your neighbors at a charity volleyball tournament to benefit Restore the Bayshore hosted by the Matawan Regional High School Student Council, the Matawan PBA Local #179 and the Aberdeen PBA Local #163.  The tournament will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8 at the main gymnasium at Matawan Regional High School. Admission costs $3 and all proceeds will benefit Restore the Bayshore. Volunteers from Restore the Bayshore will also be present to sell merchandise and run a 50/50 raffle. In addition to the funds raised at the tournament, the student council will present Restore the Bayshore with a $1,000 donation.  Read more about the tournament here.

Saladworks Fundraiser Benefits Matawan Regional Field Hockey Team

The fundraiser will run between Feb. 5 and Feb. 9.

Help support the Matawan Regional High School Field Hockey team by grabbing a meal at Saladworks in Aberdeen between Feb. 5 and Feb. 9. Just mention Matawan Regional High School when ordering and 10% of profits will go toward the team, according to the district website.  Saladworks is located in the Regent Shopping Center on Route 34 in Aberdeen next to Game Stop.

Huskies Football Player is a 2012 Mini Maxwell Winner

Winners are selected based on three major components: athletic ability, academics and community service.

Senior offensive lineman Seamus Weldon of the Matawan Huskies is a winner of the 2012 New Jersey Mini Maxwell.  The honor is awarded to football players who have exceptional athletic ability, excel in the classroom, and volunteer in the community, according to Matawan Football Coach John Kaye. The Mini Maxwell Award is a high school version of the Maxwell Award, which is bestowed annually on a college football player.  "He is truly a leader by example," Kaye said of Weldon. "He's the epitome of the word, 'student-athlete.'" According to Kaye, Weldon is being recruited by a number of colleges and universities, including Monmouth, Fordham, TCNJ, Wagner, Lafayette and Bryant.  Weldon will be honored alongside fellow recipients at a gala in …

Matawan Regional High School will hold a Career Academy open house at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. The open house was originally scheduled for Nov. 1, but had to be rescheduled due to Sandy. Students and faculty from each of the school's career academies will lead a presentation and provide applications to the program. Matawan has three academies, including Performing Arts, Business, and Bio Medical. An open house will also be held for prospective students currently in seventh and eighth grade.

Matawan Regional High School will hold two open houses in the coming weeks, one for current middle school students and one to showcase their career academies. On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., an open house will welcome the future classes of 2017 and 2018. Attendees will learn more about opportunities available at the high school as well as the Freshman Academy. On Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m., students and faculty from each of the school's career academies will lead a presentation and provide applications to the program. Photos: Aberdeen Day 2012 Goes Off With a Bang

Residents enjoyed activities throughout town including a fishing contest, a softball tournament and a talent competition.

Aberdeen Day 2012 was a day full of events throughout the entire township. Attendees had the opportunity to try and catch the largest fish of the day at Cliffwood Beach Park, ride kiddie rides and browse classic cars at the Matawan Regional High School, rock out during Aberdeen's Got Talent at Strathmore Shopping Center, and cheer on the Department of Works, Aberdeen Police Department, or the Aberdeen Fire Department during the Mayor's Trophy Softball Game at Fireman's Field.
