Matawan Apartment Building Evacuated After Partial Foundation Collapse

Three of the four apartments in the building are currently being rented from the tenant, officials said.

A Matawan apartment building at the intersection of Mill Road and Freneau Avenue was evacuated Monday afternoon after a portion of the foundation collapsed. According to Sgt. Thomas Falco, the Matawan Police Department was dispatched to the scene at about 12 p.m. after receiving a report of a collapsed house with a possible gas leak.  The first officer on the scene, Ptl. Andrew Marsala, was able to determine that there was no gas leak and only a portion of the Queen Anne's Court building had collapsed, Falco said.  Matawan Construction Official Nick Fabiano also responded to the scene and determined that a basement wall that runs parallel to Mill Road collapsed. Santa Claus is Coming to Matawan

Santa will drive through the borough to waive to children and toss candy.

Santa Claus is making a list and checking it twice before he cruises through Matawan to say Merry Christmas to local children. The Matawan First Aid Squad will tow Mr. Claus on his sleigh from Monday, Dec. 10 to Thursday, Dec. 13, according to elves at the North Pole. Matawan First Aid & Rescue Squad Running Holiday Toy Drive for Families Struggling After Sandy

The first aid volunteers hope to provide children with holiday cheer after a difficult few weeks.

The Matawan First Aid and Rescue Squad is collecting holiday gifts to donate to families struggling in the aftermath of Sandy. According to first aid volunteer Steven Morley, he and fellow volunteer Joanna Kierce saw the destruction and wanted to do something to help. "We realized that although Matawan Borough was hit hard with power outages, downed trees, and downed wires, everyone still had a place to live and still had their belongings," Morley said. "We decided this is our way of pitching in. Every child deserves a Christmas." Three People Injured in Thanksgiving Eve Car Accident on Ravine Drive in Matawan

The accident victims were transported to the hospital after the two-vehicle accident, police say.

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Ravine Drive in Matawan on Thanksgiving eve, according to Sgt. Jeremiah Hourihan. Shortly before 5:30 p.m., a sedan traveling on Ravine Drive toward the elementary school and a mid-sized SUV traveling on Ravine Drive toward Main Street collided where the road bends in front of Lake Lefferts, Hourihan explained. It is unclear at this time what caused the collision. The male driver of the sedan suffered severe injuries and was transported by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center. The male and female occupants of the SUV suffered less severe injuries and were transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The accident remains under investigation…

The officer behind me, rather than note the speed of the oncoming car, decided that my "erratic driving" (pulling out of a side street onto Ravine) was the problem and decided to pull me over. Two Car Accident at Church Street and South Atlantic Avenue in Aberdeen

Two car accident Thursday morning slows traffic in area. One driver was extricated from his vehicle.

Police were seen directing traffic at the intersection of Church Street and South Atlantic Avenue in Aberdeen after a two-car accident at 9:14 Thursday morning. During the accident, a red sedan jumped the curb in front of a South Atlantic home, crossed the front lawn, and crashed into a tree. The driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Aberdeen Township Fire Department. The Matawan First Aid Squad helped remove the driver from his vehicle on a back board, placed him in an ambulance and brought him to an area hospital. The driver of the other car involved, a silver hatchback, was also brought to an area hospital by South Aberdeen EMS. Matawan First Aid Squad Flea Market Kicks Off This Weekend

It's back! Vendors will be in the parking lot of the train station this Saturday and Sunday

The Matawan First Aid Flea Market is up and running once again at the Aberdeen Matawan NJ Transit Train Station. The market will open for the first time this season on Saturday, May 26 and will run every Saturday and Sunday of each month until the end of November. Interested in renting a spot?
