Papa Ganache of Matawan Wins 'Cupcake Wars'

The vegan bakery got to serve a variety of their cupcakes during a People's Choice Award after party.

Papa Ganache of Matawan out-baked the competition during The Food Network's Cupcake Wars, earning the vegan bakery $10,000 and the opportunity to feed hungry stars at the People Choice Awards after party. Papa Ganache faced off against 21 Cakes of Arizona, Sweet Magnolia Bakery of Minnesota and Sweet Dreamery Desserts of Los Angeles in hopes of winning over the judges with their creative recipes and artistic presentation. There were three rounds of competition with one bakery eliminated at a time. In the final round, Papa Ganache and Sweet Magnolia Bakery were the only two left standing. I went to Papa Ganache today and the cupcakes didn't taste as good as the last time I was there. I went on their facebook page and saw that Amy and Justin were no longer working there. Then I found this article. I'm so disappointed! Unfortunately, Confections of a Rock$tar is not a vegan bakery. I saw that they sell one vegan cupcake but that's not worth the hour it would take me to drive there…   more ›

Papa Ganache of Matawan Competes in 'Cupcake Wars'

The Food Network reality show competition challenged four participating bakeries to make the best cupcake for the People's Choice Awards.

Life sure is sweet for vegan bakery Papa Ganache on Main Street in Matawan.  The popular baked good and lunch spot was invited to compete on The Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" and challenged to face off against three other bakeries from around the country. Papa Ganache owner Lisa Siroti was first contacted by the show last summer when she was asked to submit an audition tape.  "We sent it in and the producers loved us. They invited us to go to war," she said with a laugh. Although they knew the show was interested, they didn't know when or which challenge they would be asked to participate in. Update: Enzo's Pizza Restaurant of Matawan Reopens After Being Seized by New Jersey Division of Taxation

The state agency says the pizzeria declared bankruptcy.

Enzo's Pizza Restaurant was reopened late on Thursday, April 4 after the property was seized only a day earlier by the New Jersey Division of Taxation.  According to Bill Quinn, of the New Jersey Division of Taxation, the pizzeria has an outstanding balance of $350,672.77 in unpaid taxes, including sales tax, corporate tax and employer withholder tax.  "On Thursday, April 4 they filed a bankruptcy peitition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court," Quinn said. "When they do that, we can't do any further collection efforts against them pending the outcome of their bankruptcy case." Ending Not So Happy For Matawan Massage Parlor

Matawan Police say a local massage parlor was offering customers a few too many services.

A Brooklyn woman is facing prostitution charges after she allegedly offered services to an undercover police officer at Hot Stone Massage Therapy in Matawan. Inga Zubenko, 45, was arrested at about 4 p.m. Friday and charged with prostitution and operating within the borough without a masseuse license, according the Lt. Ben Smith. The owner of the parlor, Lioudmila Tynanskikh of Manalapan, was issued a summons for operating a parlor in the borough without a license. The license for the parlor at 70 Main Street had expired and was never renewed, Smith explained. The charges are the result of a two week investigation conducted by the Matawan Police Department after police received a tip about illegal activity going on at Hot Stone, Smith said…
