A Taxpayer's Guide to the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District Budget

Administrative costs totaled $1,235 per student, and legal services totaled $36 per student.

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education budgeted $13,074 per student for the current school year, according to the NJ Department of Education. The guide breaks down the amount by category, including classroom instruction, supplies, benefits and salaries. The Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District budgeted $8,124 per student for classroom instruction, and $1,795 per student for support services. Support services includes areas which supplement daily classroom instruction, including "attendance, social work, health and guidance services, educational media/school library services and the child study team," according to the NJ Department of Education. Matawan Aberdeen School Budget Approved with 1.5% Tax Levy Increase

The school tax rate will increase to $1.598 in Aberdeen and $1.472 in Matawan.

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education approved an approximately $68.1 million budget for the 2013-14 academic year at a their March 21 meeting.  The $68,154,682 total budget includes a $64,745,927 operating budget, an increase of about $4.9 million from 2012-13, and $2,438,305 in debt service, a decrease of about $35 thousand. The tentative budget calls for a $682,849 increase to the tax levy from the 2012-13 year for a total of $46,206,109 to be raised by taxes. The tax rate is determined for each municipality with a formula that considers their respective assessed valuation of the entire municipality in conjunction with the total school taxes. Planning Board OK's Cliffwood Avenue Elementary School Demolition

The 90-year-old structure stands next to new Cliffwood Elementary School and poses a safety hazard, school officials say.

The Aberdeen Township Planning Board gave the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School district the ok to move forward with the demolition of the old Cliffwood Avenue Elementary School at their meeting Wednesday.  The 90-year-old structure is approximately 30,000 square feet in size, including an addition that was put on while the building still operated as a school, according to former School Business Administrator James Strimple. After the new elementary school was built, the old school operated as a storage area. The district no longer uses the building for any purpose. The demolition project, including remediation and professional fees, is estimated to cost $850,000. The actual remediation and demolition portion of the project is estimated to …

How Do You Feel About Proposed $68.1 Million Budget for Matawan-Aberdeen School District?

The overall budget is a 7.7% increase from the year prior, however the tax levy will only increase by 1.5%.

If you have an opinion or questions on the approximately $68.1 million budget proposed for the 2013-14 academic year, the Board of Education's public hearing Thursday will be your only chance to speak up. The March 21 hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cambridge Park School on Crest Way in Aberdeen. Strathmore PTO and Parent Donate Total of 20 iPads to Elementary School

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education officially accepted the donation at their Feb. 25 meeting.

Strathmore Elementary students and teachers now have access to 20 new iPads thanks to the generosity of the Strathmore Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and a Strathmore parent. The PTO donated 17 iPads with 17 Smart Cases, a total cost of $9,116.03 while Graham Peddell donated three iPads and accessories for a total of $1,200.  The Board of Education formally accepted the donation at their Feb. 25 meeting.  "Because of your donations every homeroom class now has an iPad and is finding interesting and exciting ways to put it to good use in the classroom," Strathmore Principal Kelly Bera said at the meeting. The donors were then honored with plaques from the school district.

Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education to Vote on Tentative Budget Monday

The board will hold a special action meeting Monday, March 4.

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education will hold a special action meeting Monday night to vote on a tentative budget for the 2013-14 school year.  The 2013-14 tentative budget calls for $68,145,682 in total expenditures, including approximately $2.4 million in debt service, according to an agenda posted on the district website. The district anticipates $19,519,020 in revenues, including $12,104,708 in aid from the state. This would result in a total of $48,626,662 to be raised by taxes. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the administrative offices on Crest Way in Aberdeen. Monday: Board of Education to Deliver Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying Report

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Strathmore Elementary School.

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education will discuss their Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) and Electronic Violence and Vandalism (EVVRS) statistics during a regularly scheduled Culture and Climate report Monday night, according to the board's agenda. The HIB report spans from Sept. 1 2012 to Dec. 31, 2012 while the EVVRS spans from July 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2012. The Board of Education will also discuss a new school lunch policy, which was tabled at a previous board meeting, and recognize several donors for their generosity to the district.  The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Strathmore Elementary School.

Matawan Aberdeen BOE Considers New Student Lunch Charges Policy

The policy concerns student lunch accounts that are overdrawn by $10 or more.

The Matawan Aberdeen Board of Education is considering a new lunch policy that would provide the district a means to collect outstanding balances on students' lunch accounts.  The policy was up for a second reading and adoption at the board's regular action meeting on Jan. 28. However, member Joelle Nappi asked the board to hold the policy for further consideration, citing vague language and the fact that the policy was created by the previous board.  The new policy, if adopted, would establish a uniform process to notify parents about overdrawn accounts and offer them information on free and reduced lunch as well as ensure that each child receives lunch regardless of their financial standing with the food service management company, …
