Is Traffic Safe Around the New Route 79 CVS?

A tight left turn could lead to close calls for driver's waiting at the Route 79 light.

While Patch readers said they haven't noticed any more of a traffic buildup than usual on Route 79, Patch Editors noticed what could be a minor problem in the pattern. The left turn from Lloyd Road to Route 79 South has some motorists coming close to oncoming traffic sitting stationary waiting to turn left into the CVS parking lot. The drug store on Route 79 at Lloyd Road in Morganville is just the first building on a newly cleared property, which will soon house a QuickChek fuel station and convenience store and a multi-tenant commercial building in the rear of the property. One year ago, CVS began construction on its building. The entire plot of land is fit for a bank and a retail store yet to be determined, according to blueprints and …

Why then Paul did LaRocca push to ban billboards on Route 79 and not on Route 9. I don't buy the reasoning that they were a distraction to our scholars at Marlboro High School. These monstrosities are a worse distraction on the heavily traveled road. Let's face it, when it comes to billboards, low income housing, shopping malls, houses of worship and cell towers, the ELITE in office often push …   more ›

Hit the Pedals for National Bicycle Month

Wally Tunison of The Bicycle Hub in Marlboro has some tips for bicycle riders.

Editor's note: This article was originally published in May, 2012 and is being re-published in honor of National Bicycle Month. May is National Bicycle Month, but Wally Tunison, owner of The Bicycle Hub in Marlboro, wants this to be a month that sparks 365 days of riding. "We encourage people to ride their bikes 365 days a year, and not wait for the 30 days in May," he said. But for those who haven't pumped up their wheels in a while, Tunison said May is a month surrounding a national effort to rediscover your inner child's love of biking. National Bicycle Month began about 20 years ago, promoted by independent bicycle dealers like The Bicycle Hub. "We recommend you start off easy. Wear your helmet, and if you are unsure about your bicycle…

Is There More Traffic Around the New CVS?

Have you noticed traffic backing up more than usual on Route 79 at Lloyd Road?

The new CVS has been now open for a few months. The drug store on Route 79 at Lloyd Road in Morganville is just the first building on a newly cleared property, which will soon house a QuickChek fuel station and convencience store and a multi-tenant commercial building in the rear of the property. One year ago, CVS began construction on its building. The entire plot of land is fit for a bank and a retail store yet to be determined, according to blueprints and Dean Staknys, Marlboro's Assistant Township Engineer. According to The News Transcript, Zoning Board members expressed traffic concerns in the area. The Department of Transportation recently ok'd widening the road as well as altering the intersection traffic signal to reflect a higher …

The traffic between Nolan Road and Rt. 79 is a nightmare. Especially when my house is in the middle. Pulling out of the driveway during rush hours or schools closing is a stroke waiting to happen. I will never be able to sell, so I paid for a rental. Just wait for QuickCheck gas station and developments to be completed. Well come to traffic hell.   more ›

CVS Expected to Open at End of February in Morganville

The news drug store is located at Route 79 and Lloyd Road.

Construction is almost complete at the new CVS located on Lloyd Road and Route 79 in Morganville, according to township officials. One year ago, CVS began construction on its building. The entire plot of land will be fit for a bank and a retail store yet to be determined, according to blueprints and Dean Staknys, Marlboro's Assistant Township Engineer. Construction workers were seen this week pouring cement. Large cement and construction trucks parked on the side of the road have warranted a temporary traffic pattern change, blocking the lane on the farthest right when traveling southbound on Route 79. In December, a gas leak caused by construction on the site warranted temporary evacuation of surrounding homes and businesses. CVS is …

CVS Construction on Rt. 79 Well Underway

The drug store structure has been built.

The construction site on Lloyd Road and Rt. 79 looks like it will be a full-blown CVS by the end of the summer. The site, which has been under construction since February, is approved for for commercial use and will house the CVS, a bank and a retail store that is yet to be determined. Dean Staknys, Marlboro's Assistant Township Engineer told Patch in February that construction is expected to end in August. Staknys could not be reached for comment for an updated timeline. The property is on the Aberdeen, Morganville border. Marlboro Township currently has a CVS on Rt. 9 in Morganville and on Ryan Road and Rt. 79 in Marlboro. Matawan has a CVS on Atlantic Avenue and Morristown Road.

I am not happy about the raping of the land either. There is less and less areas fordeer and other wildlife. Then people complain that the animals are doing damage their property! In all honesty I would love to see a Christmas Tree Store there if we have to have anything other than woods!   more ›

Costco Approved For Expanded Fuel Service

The Marlboro Planning Board approved a plan to add more fuel stations to Costco in Morganville.

Costco seems to have a good problem: they have too many fuel customers at their Morganville location. The wholesale warehouse opened in 2011, and Costco is now looking at the traffic pattern within its own parking lot and ways to serve more customers. Representatives proposed adding two more fuel stations, a move the Marlboro Planning Board approved last week as a "good first step." The board and Costco representatives agreed that the current traffic pattern in the parking lot and the volume of cars is pushing customers out into a line in the Rt. 9 bus lane. “Quite honestly, if I can’t get off of Rt. 9, I’m not going to Costco,” Josh Pollak, Planning Board member said. John Palus of Dyanmic Engineering in Lake Como said the plan to add …
