Last Chance: Apply for Affordable Housing Units in Aberdeen

Applications must be submitted to the township by May 31

May 31 is the last day to submit applications for four of the eight affordable housing units currently available in Aberdeen Township. Applications must be submitted to the Township of Aberdeen, Attn: Maxine Rescorl, MHL. No late applications will be accepted, said Rescorl, the municipal housing liaison for Aberdeen Township. The eight units are part of The Villages at Aberdeen, a development that is currently being built by C&M Associates, explained Rescorl. Four of the units are expected to be ready for occupancy by July 1. The remaining four are expected to be finished by the end of the year.  The area was zoned for inclusionary housing when C&M applied to develop the land in 2010 to help the township meet COAH regulations, Rescorl said…

Last Chance: Register for Matawan's 2012 Summer Rec Program

Make sure to register for a summer of fun before it's too late.

This weekend is your last chance to register for the Matawan Borough 2012 Summer Recreation Program. Stop by the Matawan Municipal Community Center on Saturday, May 19 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to register. The program is for children entering kindergarten through seventh grade in September and is held at Ravine Drive School, July 2-Aug. 10. The 2012 Summer Camp Program costs $175 for your first child, $150 for each additional child. For non-Matawan residents, the costs are $225 for the first child and $200 for the second. The one-time fee includes: registration, several activities at the school, several trips to area parks, two live entertainment shows at the school and a camp t-shirt for every camper. Last Chance: 15th Annual Tour of Colts Neck Classic Bicycle Race

Registration ends today, May 4.

Today is the last chance to register for the Fifteenth Annual Tour of Colts Neck Classic Bicycle Race, which will take place this Sunday. Cyclists can register at bikereg.com. Entry is free for all Colts Neck residents. Registration for non-Colts Neck residents costs $20-$30, depending on the race. This year's race continues the more convenient registration, parking, and spectator area adjacent to the start and finish lines introduced last year. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Thompson Park in Lincroft. See the attached flyer for details about specific races and start times.

Monday, April 30, is your last chance to enter to win a Nook eReader from the Matawan Aberdeen Public Library. The Library is conducting a survey of their services to find out what patrons think of available services and what they would like to see in the future. The survey kicked off on April 1 in honor of National Library Week. All those who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a Nook eReader on May 1. Last Chance: Safely Dispose of Prescription Drugs

In an effort to help people dispose of expired or unwanted prescription medication safely, the Drug Enforcement Administration has scheduled another National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop-off centers will be located at: The DEA last held a prescription drug take-back on Oct. 29, 2011. Across the country, more than 188.5 tons of unwanted or expired medications were turned in.

Last Chance: Register to Walk a Mile for a Special Child

Walk4Friends will take place in Holmdel on April 29. Register by April 17 to receive a t-shirt

The fourth annual Walk4Friends, which raises funds for children with special needs, will take place on April 29. Approximately 1,500 people will come out to walk the mile and this year the event will take place at Vonage Campus, 23 Main Street in Holmdel at 1 p.m. Sponsored by the Friendship Circle of Central New Jersey, this event aims to raise close to $150,000 for special needs youth. The Friendship Circle of Central New Jersey provides innovative programs for more than 100 teenagers and children with special needs, as well as for their families.  All walkers must register by April 17 to receive a Walk4Friends T-shirt; registration is free.
