Police say an 85-year old man died in an accident on Route 36 Saturday morning.
An 85-year old Keyport man died after being struck by a car at the intersection of Route 36 and Broad Street on Saturday around 8:38 a.m. According to Keyport Police Chief George Casaletto, the man was crossing at the intersection of Broad and Route 36 when he was struck in the northbound lane by a 2012 Jeep driven by a 64-year old Union Beach resident. The accident victim was taken to Bayshore Community Hospital by Keyport First Aid, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Keyport Fire Dept. also assisted at the scene. The accident is being investigated by the Keyport Police, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Monmouth County SCART team. A Union Beach man is accused of zipping out of Stop & Shop with a sumptuous feast, without paying.
From police reports, Henry G. Dellapietro of Park Avenue in Union Beach appears to be a man of fine taste, but poor judgment. On Thursday, a Keyport Stop & Shop store manager called police to say a man had rolled a shopping cart packed with $275 worth of spareribs, steaks, shrimp, lobster tails out the automatic doors, without pausing to pay. Dellapietro was heading to his car in the parking lot where he had three children in the car waiting for him, police said. When Dellapietro saw police, he fled on foot into the brush area near South Main St. Hazlet Ptl. Kevin.Geoghan was called to assist with his K-9 unit Diablo and found Dellapietro hiding in the weeds. Resident arrested for gun possession and aggravated sexual assault in connection to an April 3 incident in Keyport.
Updated: The story has been updated with more information released from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office on April 17. Keyport police arrested Martin Lopez, 31, of Main Street, Keport at Tuesday and charged him with robbery, possession of a weapon, and aggravated sexual assault of a minor, among other charges. The arrest came as a result of a search warrant on April 17 carried by out Keyport police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Forensics unit.
