NJ Monthly's new peer-reviewed book lists almost 200 chefs across the country it calls the best.

A local chef at Drew's Bayshore Bistro in Keyport has been named by peers as being among the nation's most skilled in the kitchen, according to NJ Monthly Magazine. Andrew Araneo, who also owns the establishment, was among the 196 New Jersey chefs listed in the new peer-reviewed book Best Chefs America. The book publishers explained the chef nomination process on its website, writing, "Our analysts speak to nominated chefs across the country by way of appointment and telephone interview. Chefs are asked a series of proprietary questions that score their peers on a numerical scale and identify veterans and up-and-coming talent. The process is calculated to accurately record the opinions of leading chefs about the talent of their colleagues …

Update: Keyport was one of six gas stations to receive jet fuel, according to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. - 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 Delta Gas Station on Route 36 in Keyport was shut down Friday after the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office reported to local police that jet fuel was mistakenly delivered to that station and a station in Manasquan, according to a press release from Keyport Police Chief Butch Casaletto. The jet fuel caused several vehicles to stall out due to the fuel mixture, Casaletto explained. It's unknown at this time if the jet fuel was added to the hightest or to the regular fuel tank. Several federal, state and county agencies that offer help to Hurricane-Sandy affected businesses came to Middletown to introduce themselves.
When water crept five blocks into Port Monmouth and filled Alise Pipitone's house, basement and garage, it not only wrecked her home but also threatened to snuff the life out of the C&G Electrical contracting business. Ten inches of water ruined the home-based business's equipment and killed the phone, fax line and the Internet service. Painting contractor Bob Crane of Voorhees & Crane Painting, also in Port Monmouth, has a similar story. He said he lost $10,000 worth of equipment in the flooded basement of his home-based business, and insurance won't pay. All businesses must close as of 2:30 p.m. per Keyport PD.
All businesses in Keyport are being ordered to shut down by 2:30 p.m. on Monday as Hurricane Sandy brings heavy wind and rain to the Bayshore. This includes shops in the downtown area, as well as larger stores along Route 36 and Route 35 such as Stop & Shop. A driving ban began at 9 a.m. in the borough. All non-emergency personnel are to stay off the roads unless they are evacuating. Keyport Police are dealing with multiple wires down on West Front Street in downtown Keyport.
