Who has the best “decked” house in Matawan and Aberdeen? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, this Waverly Place home in Strathmore has the best holiday lights in our area for the second year in a row! We had tons of national entries in this year’s Deck the House contest and in our quest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in the country, we’ve seen everything from a life-size Santa to holiday lights so bright they could blind the neighbors. We loved showcasing everyone’s holiday spirit, but Deck the House isn’t over yet. We’re still looking for the one home so spectacularly decorated that it could be the national grand prize winner of our contest. We will choose 24 finalists from all our entries…

We put up holiday lights to see how pretty they look when it gets dark. You want to capture those lights on your camera, but getting those lights to look right in your pictures can be more of a challenge than you bargained for. Professional photographers have lot of experience and cameras with all sorts of settings that most of us wouldn’t know what to do with. Here are three tips for the amateur photographers out there. Use these tips to take a picture of your home decorated with holiday lights. Post the picture to Matawan-Aberdeen Patch’s Deck the Halls contest page and you could win $100,000 for your school district. Want to get more technical than that? Did you decorate your house for the holidays this year? Enter our "Deck the House" contest and you could win $100,000 for your local school district and $500 to pay your electric bills!
We’re launching our annual Deck the House Contest to find the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—the one home so spectacularly decorated that everyone in town jokes your holiday decorations could rival Rockefeller Center’s. If this sounds like your house, upload a photo or video of your home to our contest page from Nov. 26 to Dec. 16. Enter your submission on the Matawan-Aberdeen Patch Deck the House page. Only residents of Patch towns are eligible to enter. We’ll select 24 regional finalists, and from them, pick one grand prize winner. Patch will pay up to $500 of the utility bill for each finalist, while our national winner will have $100,000 donated to his or her local school …

A little friendly competition can be a good thing, especially when there’s $100,000 for Matawan-Aberdeen Schools on the line! Ralph D. is doing his part to try to win Patch's Deck the House contest and earn our local schools some serious cash. If you think your holiday decorations are the best in town, upload a picture of your house to enter the contest. If you’re voted a finalist, Patch will give you up to $500 to cover your utility bill. Last year, an Aberdeen family made it all the way to the finals with a photo of their Waverly Place home. In the end, however, it was a California town that took the Grand Prize. When Tara Carroll-Darcy was house shopping with her husband, they kept their passion for holiday decorating in mind. "When we looked at houses, we had decorating criteria. My husband would say, 'That window's not big enough to decorate,' or 'The front lawn isn't big enough,'" Carroll-Darcy said. The family finally decided fives years ago on their Aberdeen Township home at 25 Waverly Place, with two large bay windows on the first floor and a large front lawn - perfect for spreading holiday cheer.
