The surplus auction has 100 items up for bid, including a fleet of seized or surplus cars
In the market for a new car? How about a lawn mower or construction trailer? These items could be yours if the price is right. Monmouth County is holding an online auction of items from the county’s Fleet Services, Bridge Division, Buildings and Grounds, Park System and Reclamation Center, as well as seized and surplus property from the Prosecutor’s Office. The items are being made available in two USGovBid.com auctions: one featuring 99 items and ending Wednesday, May 8 and one featuring a construction trailer ending Wednesday, May 15. The cars up for auction include a 2005 Cadillac CTS, a 2013 Ford Explorer and a 2003 Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG. The following is a message from Monmouth County: Six paper shredding events have been scheduled in local communities this fall to give residents opportunities to get rid of old documents and confidential files safely. All shredding events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as follows: “We are happy to provide these events for responsible paper disposal and to help residents reduce the potential for identity theft,” Freeholder Serena DiMaso said. “The county is proactively removing paper and other recyclables from the waste stream as a way to extend the life of the Reclamation Center in Tinton Falls. Monmouth County Transportation Council holding summit May 15
Municipal transportation issues will be the hot topic during Tuesday night's Transportation Summit at Monmouth University. The Monmouth County Transportation Council, an advisory group to the Monmouth County Planning Board, is hosting the summit on May 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Young Auditorium in Bey Hall. “This annual transportation summit helps Monmouth County residents, elected officials, planners and engineers find solutions to the transportation issues faced by our communities,” Freeholder Director John P. Curley said in a release. “This year’s program will review common municipal transportation challenges and present some real success stories. Freeholder board resolution opposes reinstatement of tax on those who work but don’t live in New York City.
Members of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders voiced opposition to any reinstatement of a tax on those who work in New York City but aren't residents. The freeholder board unanimously passed a resolution during its regular meeting in Freehold on Thursday, May 10 opposing the commuter tax. The vote came in response to reports that Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer wants the New York State Legislature to pass the tax, which was eliminated in 1999 after 33 years on the books. “This just shows mismanagement on the city of New York that they can just go and try to grab a tax dollar from anyone. Money would fund land acquisition and improvements to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center and Brookdale Community College, among other projects.
A series of bond ordinances introduced by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders would allocate over $76 million for capital improvements and land acquisition. The governing body introduced the five ordinances, which include $73 million in new bonds, by a 4-0 vote during a regular meeting at Atlantic Highlands Borough Hall on Thursday, April 26. Monmouth County residents age 60 and over are invited to submit one piece of original, visual art in Monmouth County’s annual 2012 Senior Citizen Art Contest and Exhibition. County residents may download the complete application packet from the county website, pick up an application at the county’s Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans’ Services at 21 Main St., Freehold, or request a copy be mailed to them by calling 732-431-7450. The deadline to submit a completed application is June 19. Artists who have professional or nonprofessional status are welcome.
