'Let It Snow 2013' at the Middletown Arts Center

Suddenly a snowy landscape goes perfectly with the show at the MAC through Jan. 27.

A special exhibit at the Middletown Arts Center coincides perfectly with a day when newly fallen snow transforms the view out of our windows into a stark visual landscape, where pearled lawns are painted with the bluish strokes of leafless trees.  An exhibit currently on view through Jan. 27 called "Let It Snow 2013" includes 40 pieces of art created by local community artists. Some of the local scenes are recognizable, and some of the artwork is available for purchase.  "We welcome the public into our warm gallery to view the beauty of winter," said MAC Curator Maggie O'Brien. Aberdeen Woman Advances to State Art Contest

After placing first in the county's art contest, she will move on to the state competition

An Aberdeen woman placed first for her category at the 2012 Monmouth County Senior Citizen Juried Art Contest and Exhibition.  Barbara Heinrichs' non-professional acrylic painting, "Mansion Stairway," received a blue ribbon. Heinrichs, along with the first place winners from the other 10 categories, will compete in the New Jersey Association of Area Agencies on Aging State Senior Citizens Annual Juried Art Contest and Exhibition in September. The contest will be held at the Meadow Lakes community in East Windsor. “Each year we are elated to showcase our senior art at the county library’s Manalapan location during the entire month of July,” Office on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Services Executive Director Michael T. Young Artists Proud to Have Work on Display at Matawan Aberdeen Library

Work from the MAMS Art Club will be on display at the library throughout the summer

It started in a parent-teacher conference at the Matawan Aberdeen Middle School. Ruby Thompson, a MAMS parent and employee at the Matawan Aberdeen Library, and Rod Stevens, a MAMS art teacher, were talking about a way to make students' art more visible. "I wanted to do some art advocacy in Matawan and I didn't know how to do that," Thompson said. "Art is underrepresented in the scholastic environment. There's a whole culture of students who live and breathe art and to have an outlet is the most important thing we can do," Stevens said. Thompson spoke with the library director, Kimberly Paone, about doing an art show there, and when Paone gave her the go ahead, she reached out to Stevens.
