Aberdeen PD: Resident Reports Jewelry Stolen From Pinehurst Drive

A look at Aberdeen Township Police activity between May 8 and May 14, 2013.

The Aberdeen Township Police Department responded to or initiated 340 calls for service between May 8 and May 14, 2013, including twelve suspicious persons/vehicles; ten alarms; 23 first aid calls; twelve motor vehicle crashes; four thefts; four domestic violence incidents, five disorderly persons, one assault, four criminal mischief incidents, two noise complaints, and 140 motor vehicle stops, according to Police Chief John Powers. Officers also issued 124 motor vehicle summonses. Car Struck Route 35 Divider & Traffic Signal Pole Before Flipping, Aberdeen Police Say

The 17-year-old driver from Hazlet and two juvenile passengers reported no injuries after the accident Sunday.

A vehicle flipped over after the driver struck a concrete divider and traffic signal pole at the intersection of Route 35 and Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen on Sunday, according to Police Chief John Powers.  Shortly before 5 p.m., a 17-year-old Hazlet resident lost control while driving a 2011 Nissan Maxima through the intersection. The driver was attempting to turn right onto Route 35 south from Cliffwood Avenue when the one-vehicle accident occurred, Powers said. The car came to rest on its roof. The 17-year-old and two juvenile passengers did not report any injuries.  The driver was ticketed for careless driving and violation of passenger restrictions for a provisional driver's license, according to Powers. YEAH!! I had originally had a confrontation with him a mile before he crashed he cut me off and was driving recklessly. I then later saw his car flipped over when i came to the intrsection about ten minutes later. stupid kid cut his knees and got a free ride to the hospital, if i was one of the other kids' parents i would file a lawsuit.   more ›

Aberdeen PBA Hosts Autism Awareness Training for Law Enforcement Officers

The training showed officers how to identify, interpret and handle autistic individuals to foster safe encounters in the field.

The Aberdeen Township PBA 163 hosted autism awareness training Thursday in the township municipal building through Parents of Autistic Children, known as POAC.  The two hour training session was provided free of charge to all law enforcement and focused on teaching officers the signs and symptoms of autistic individuals they may encounter in the field. The overall goal, according to Aberdeen Ptl. Craig Hausman, who worked to bring the training to the township, is to create a safe community for all residents with developmental disabilities. "If you're not experienced with [autism] you might not know how to react or what to expect and you might not deal with the situation in the right way," Hausman said.  Specifically, he explained, the …

Spring Cleaning For Your Medicine Cabinet

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

The Aberdeen Township Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its sixth opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to the Aberdeen Township Municipal Building at 1 Aberdeen Square off of Church Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. Police: Matawan Woman Drove into Oncoming Traffic After Hitting Stop Sign

Aberdeen police say the woman was driving while intoxicated during the incident Sunday night.

A Matawan woman is facing several charges after she allegedly left the scene of one accident on Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen before being involved in a second one on Sunday, according to a press release issued by the Aberdeen Township Police Department. Police say Maria Vitale, 78, of Haven Drive was driving her 2000 Toyota while intoxicated at about 9 p.m. when she allegedly struck a stop sign on Cliffwood Avenue and then continued driving across Route 35. She then allegedly crossed over into oncoming traffic near Rose Street and collided with a 1992 Accura operated by a Perth Amboy resident.  Vitale was taken to Bayshore Community Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, according to Chief John Powers.
