Strolling Yuletide Carolers To Sing In Shrewsbury Saturday

The professional singing quartet will be performing at the Grove between 1-3 p.m.

Strolling among the posh shoppers at The Grove in Shrewsbury Saturday will be four people straight out of the pages of Godey's Lady Book.

The Yuletide Carolers of New Jersey will be singing in the offices, sidewalks and stores between 1-3 p.m. in their final holiday season appearance at the Route 35 shopping plaza. (Last weekend they were kept home because of a snowstorm.) Elsewhere around town, they will make appearances at the Rumson Country Club, Seabrook in Tinton Falls, Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale and many private parties.

The professional singers -- a soprano, alto, baritone and tenor who sing in true four part harmony-- come dressed to the nines. The ladies wear long dresses, shawls, hoop skirts, bonnets, and leather gloves, the men wear a top hat, long coat or cape and carry the big songbook.

"When you walk in and people recognize the music, you can almost feel people being brought back to their happy childhood memories," said Sarah Kuhns, the group's regional director. "It's just magic."

Kuhns said the paid performers stay in character, but like to engage with the crowd "to create sparkle and fun." They take requests and will even pose for a photo with you, she said.

The Grove at Shrewsbury is located at 597 Route 35.
