U.N. Women is looking for volunteers to help women and girls face issues that affect them

What: Launch of the Shore Region of the New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. Committee for U.N. Women

Dear Friends,

I am very excited and pleased to announce the launch of the Shore Region of The New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. Committee for U.N. Women on Monday Oct. 24. This event will be held at Trinity Restaurant located at 84 Broad Street, Keyport NJ 07735 from 7-9 p.m. Please save the date! The New Jersey Chapter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Shore Region includes Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Monmouth and Ocean Counties. If you would like to help financially, volunteer your time or join our membership please contact me.

Janet Lee, from 180, Turning Lives Around will be our guest speaker. 180, Turning Lives Around, is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence in our community. 180, has served individuals and families for 35 years. Their caring staff provides immediate and long term support in assisting clients with the trauma they have experienced, while supporting them in obtaining services and making decisions that will turn their lives around.

180 is committed to providing:

  • Support During Crisis & Long Term Group Counseling for victims and families affected by domestic and sexual violence.
  • Advocacy - assisting their clients in acquiring the services and support they need from other organizations and government agencies.
  • Education & Prevention - Striving to break the cycle of violence by bringing their vast expertise in the areas of sexual and domestic violence to the classroom, professional organizations and community groups.
  • Outreach - Working to mobilize concerned individuals, organizations, & community groups to join their efforts to end violence against women, men and children.

We are looking to create a network of women and men interested in learning about the issues women and girls face today and willing to lend support.

We are also looking for:

  • Additional Shore Region organizations to partner with that focus on issues that affect women and girls;
  • Introductions to contact persons at Shore Region colleges and universities that have women studies programs;
  • Introductions to Shore Region politicians and leaders supportive of women and girls.
