Aberdeen: Volunteers Needed for "Critical" Cliffwood Beach Park Clean-up

They are seeking volunteers of all ages for the clean up on Sat. Oct. 22

The Aberdeen Township Environmental and Shade Tree Advisory Board in conjunction with Clean Ocean Action and Monmouth County Clean Communities is seeking volunteers of all ages for a beach clean up on Sat., Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cliffwood Beach Park.

The event will take place rain or shine. Volunteers can sign up on the morning of the event at the Fishermen’s Parking Lot on Lakeshore Drive at Whale Creek, across from the Hockey Rink. Participants should wear closed toe shoes (no flip-flops) and dress for the weather. Gloves are available at sign up.

“The timing of the fall clean up is critical, as the beach has been severely damaged by Hurricane Irene and subsequent storms,” stated Frank Huza, chairman of the Environmental Board.  “Most of the dune fences need to be repaired and there is still an incredible amount of debris on the beach. Given these conditions, we are urging members of the community to come out and pitch in.”
