Teacher Recognized for Lifetime of Service

The BOE recognized Kathleen Eovino for her years of dedication to the district

Saying that Kathleen Eovino is dedicated to the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District is an understatement.

In January of 1972, Eovino became a math teacher at the high school. She spent nine years there before moving to the middle school, which at that point in time was called Matawan Ave Junior High School. After eight years there, she returned to the high school for twenty four years for a total of thirty eight years as a teacher.

The Board of Education recognized Eovino for her dedication to the district at their meeting last week.

"We would like to thank Kathleen for many years of service to the Matawan AberdeenRregional School District, and as a representative for the superintendent to the Matawan Aberdeen Public Library," said Superintendent David Healy.

The Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library Board of Trustees also recognized her for being a representative for the superintendent since 1989.

"On behalf of myself, the borough council and most important the residents, we want to sincelery thank you for everything you have done for the Matawan Aberdeen Public Library," Matawan Mayor Paul Buccellato said.

Eovino's service goes far beyond teaching and being a representative on the library board. Eovino was the advisor to the literary and art magazine, the chess coach, co-advisor of the National Honor Society, a member of the faculty advisory board, assistant Girl Scout leader with Troup 645, just to name a few.

Eovino, who lives in Manasquan with her husband, credits her dedication to both her daughter attending Matawan Regional schools and the strong character of her colleagues.

"This community has people who dedicate themselves and they care, just like the teachers that care about your kids," she said. "There are so many teachers who volunteer in Matawan."

"I wouldn't have brought my daughter to Matawan if I didn't think she would get a good education," she said.

When Eovino accepted her award of recognition, she expressed her gratitude to her family, friends and fellow teachers.

"It's been a pleasure and a good experience," she said with a smile.
