Matawan Regional HS Student Performance Gets High Marks in New Report

MRHS gets a 'B' grade for great test scores and increasing student achievement

Matawan Regional High School's above average scores and student growth has earned it high marks in a new report.

Inside Jersey, a magazine produced by the Star Ledger, used a "proprietary formula" to chart trends in student achievement over the past four years. The magazine used the state's High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA), SAT scores and other data in its calculations to dole out letter grades. The full report can be seen here on NJ.com.

Matawan Regional was given a 'B' grade for above average scores and above average growth. Test scores improved a notable 14 percent over the study period, the second highest in Monmouth County after Asbury Park and Keyport high schools.

The report notes the composite SAT score at the school was 1443.

Median home values are noted, but not factored into the calculations, according to the report. Generally, home values show that towns with the highest home values had the highest 'grades' in the report but Matawan Regional's calculated figure of $339,400, among the lowest in Monmouth County, bucked the trend.

In the print edition of the "New Jersey Top Performing Public High Schools" report, the magazine said 'B' schools were "rising to the top" and that "Bs were the ones that showed the most improvement in the last 4 years."
