Lloyd Road Principal Resigns

The board voted to accept his resignation at their June 11 meeting

principal Luigi Laugelli will part ways with the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District in August.

Laugelli was the principal at the upper elementary school for one academic year after former principal Patricia O'Keefe retired in June of 2011. He handed in his letter of resignation last week citing "personal reasons", according to Superintendent David Healy.

Healy denied rumors that Laugelli had been asked to resign after it came to light during the May 21 Board of Education meeting that the Owleus Anti-Bullying Program, a program designed to teach children how to understand bullying and how to stand up to it, was never rolled out at Lloyd Road School.

"He was not asked to resign and he's been offered a number of positions," Healy said after the June 11 board meeting. "I can't speculate why he chose to resign. It was his reason."

Laugelli's resignation will take effect on Aug. 4. An was recently hired for Lloyd Road, however no one has been selected for principal of the school, Healy said.
