GALLERY: MRHS Graduation

One by one, the senior class of Matawan Regional High School marched across the stage, accepted his or her diploma and continued forward as a graduate.

However, as each of the 241 students completed this right of passage many of them recalled the memory of two students who would not.

Senior Class President Michael Sefack began his speech with a moment of silence to remember Cory Snyder, who passed away at a summer camp in 2007, and , a star soccer player who passed away in January.

"It is this community's spirit that makes me proud to be a Husky," Valedictorian Asher Wasserman said.

Although the ceremony included many reflections on the past, it also offered much advice to seniors on how to approach the future.

"Take the time to recognize where you are every day and always remember the last four years," Wasserman said. "Graduation is a process that goes on for every day for the rest of our lives."

Salutatorian Dhara Shah and Senior Class President Michael Sefack also addressed the class. Even though the ceremony was to honor the students, both students took the opportunity to thank their educators.

"I know what we'll miss the most," Sefack said. "Our teachers, our coaches and our advisors. They are who made Matawan, Matawan."
