Matawan Confirms Appointment of Temporary Recreation Director

Previous director resigned in July

The Matawan Borough Council voted to formally appoint Deirdre Ring as the temporary recreation director, a part time position in the borough that pays $12,000 a year.

Ring, who was already a member of the Recreation Commission, was put in place by Borough Administrator Barbara Bascom after the at the Recreation Commission's July 20 meeting.

The resolution passed at the council meeting confirms Ring as the temporary recreation director, whereas previously she was considered an emergency appointment.

According to Bascom, it was necessary to immediately appoint someone after Altomonte's resignition because events like Matawan Day were quickly approaching.

The temporary appointment lasts until the end of this year.
