Matawan Borough Fire Chiefs & First Aid Officers Sworn In

Emergency personnel took the oath of office for leadership positions within their organization.

The Matawan Borough Fire Chief, Deputy Chiefs and the Matawan First Aid & Rescue Squad Captain were sworn in at the Matawan reorganization meeting Jan. 1.

After each volunteer leader took the oath of their office, a friend or family member placed a pin on their uniform. 

Donald Mason, of Midway Hose Company, was sworn in as Chief; Peter Berliner, of M.E. Haley was sworn in as Assistant Chief; Brian Bernath, of Washington Engine Company, was sworn in as Second Assistant Chief; and Zoltan Varsanyi, of Freneau Volunteer Fire Company, was sworn in as Third Assistant Chief.

James Archibald was sworn in as Captain of the Matawn First Aid & Rescue Squad. Brenden Park will serve as First Lieutenant, Austin Chang will serve as Second Lieutenant, and Joanne Kierce will serve as Sergeant.
