Aberdeen Planning Board to Review Possible Demolition of Old Cliffwood Elementary School

The board will also review the possible demolition of the old Cliffwood Elementary School building.

The Aberdeen Township Planning Board will discuss the demolition of the old Cliffwood Avenue Elementary School at their meeting Wednesday. 

The 90-year-old structure is approximately 30,000 square feet in size, including an addition that was put on while the building still operated as a school, according to former School Business Administrator James Strimple. After the new elementary school was built, the old school operated as a storage area. The district no longer uses the building for any purpose, Strimple said.

The demolition project, including remediation and professional fees, . The actual remediation and demolition portion of the project is estimated to take eight weeks. The board authorized the business office to advertise for project bids at the end of 2012.

The Planning Board will conduct a capital review of the demolition at their March 20 meeting, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Aberdeen Township Municipal Building.
