Truck Driver Gets Stuck on Flooded Street in Cliffwood Beach

The driver called for help after his truck stalled in a large pool of water Thursday morning.

A truck driver found himself in too deep Thursday morning after attempting to navigate through a flooded Cliffwood Beach street.

The driver called for help shortly before 8 a.m., alerting emergency responders that he was trapped in his stalled box truck on Lakeshore Drive, according to Aberdeen Deputy Police Chief Rick Derechailo.

Derechailo explained that the Laurence Harbor Fire Chief was able to drive a vehicle partially into the water as the tide receded and retrieve the driver from his truck.

The Aberdeen Township Police Department and the South Aberdeen EMS responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Derechailo noted that such incidents are common when the township experiences heavy rains combined with high tides.

"It happens every time. People think they can make it through," he said, adding that a sedan also got stuck earlier that morning on a flooded Amboy Avenue. "They don't realize how deep they are."

I'm sorry to say that this road, in Cliffwood Beach, is flooded more often than not (on a good day) and now that Sandy has made her way through, it looks like this mostly everyday. We, that live in this small section of Cliffwood Beach, called Midnight Point, are waiting for a permanent, not a bandaid, solution to this problem. A solution that is promised but that never comes. It's unfortunate but Cliffwood Beach residentsa continue to feel like the forgotten children of Aberdeen.

You can be sure you're not forgotten when your property taxes are due.
