Truck Driver Gets Stuck on Flooded Street in Cliffwood Beach

The driver called for help after his truck stalled in a large pool of water Thursday morning.

A truck driver found himself in too deep Thursday morning after attempting to navigate through a flooded Cliffwood Beach street.

The driver called for help shortly before 8 a.m., alerting emergency responders that he was trapped in his stalled box truck on Lakeshore Drive, according to Aberdeen Deputy Police Chief Rick Derechailo.

Derechailo explained that the Laurence Harbor Fire Chief was able to drive a vehicle partially into the water as the tide receded and retrieve the driver from his truck.

Derechailo noted that such incidents are common when the township experiences heavy rains combined with high tides.

"It happens every time. People think they can make it through," he said, adding that a sedan also got stuck earlier that morning on a flooded Amboy Avenue. "They don't realize how deep they are."
