Three Car Crash On July 4 Causes Road Closure

Police say accident caused by driver disregarding a red light.

A three-car crash on Route 35 at Amboy Avenue on July 4 around 5:30 p.m. sent several people to the hospital and diverted northbound traffic onto Prospect Avenue for twenty to thirty minutes.

According to Aberdeen Police, a 37-year old Keyport woman disregarded a red traffic light at Amboy Avenue, causing a collision. 

Police say that Saniye Kilic of Maple Place, Keyport, was travelling north on Highway 35 in a 2006 Land Rover when she blew the traffic signal at the intersection of Amboy Ave.

She collided with a 2002 Honda driven by Peter Micalizio, 53, Naughton Ave, Staten Island, NY, which was entering the intersection. 

Kilic's Land Rover then struck the concrete barrier, a traffic pole, and a 2006 Toyota operated by Charles H. Giese, 72, Florence Ave., Union Beach, which was stopped in the southbound left lane of the highway.

Kilic’s vehicle then flipped twice and came to rest in the northbound lanes of the highway. 

Kilic was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for a neck injury.

Micalizio and his passenger were transported to Bayshore Community Hospital with complaints of neck pain. 

Kilic was issued summonses for failure to observe a traffic signal and reckless driving. 

Investigating the crash were Aberdeen Police Officers Matthew McDow, Christopher DeSarno and Special Officers Michael Scarpa and Michael Sullivan.
