Section of Route 34 Closed Monday for Several Hours After Three Vehicle Accident

A hazardous materials response team was required to clean up the accident

A section of Route 34 between Disbrow Road and Morristown Road was closed for over four hours Monday after a three vehicle accident resulted in diesel fuel and human waste being spilled onto the highway.

According to Old Bridge Cpt. Art Carullo, at about 11:14 a.m. a 2004 Honda Pilot was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left on Sheila Court when a 2002 Central Jersey tank cleaning truck struck the Honda from behind. The tanker then traveled into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2003 International Truck carrying diesel fuel, Carullo said.

The second collision caused human waste from the tank cleaning truck and diesel fuel from the International Truck to leak onto the highway.
