Aberdeen Accident Victim Was Au Pair for Holmdel Family

Jannine Hayes, 23, of Johannesburg, South Africa, and a 7-month-old boy were killed in the crash.

Jannine Hayes, 23, of Johannesburg, South Africa, has been identified by authorities as the driver and adult victim of Tuesday's fatal accident in Aberdeen. She had been serving as an au pair to a Holmdel family whose 7-month old son was also killed in the crash.

The infant's 2-year-old brother was also in the car and treated for minor injuries, according to First Assistant Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni, who did not include the names of the children in an email identifying Ms. Hayes on Wednesday.

The Pontiac Sunbird driven by Ms. Hayes was struck by a Jeep SUV on Church Street in Aberdeen at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. The location was a curving, downhill portion of the road between Broad Street and the Aberdeen Municipal Building near Atlantic Avenue.

Authorities have not released the identities of the driver and passengers in the SUV or the extent of any injuries they may have suffered. The accident is still under investigation.
