Large NJ Transit and State Police Presence at Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station

An anti-terrorism exercise is being conducted by the NJ State Police and NJ Transit Police Wednesday morning.

What appeared to be at least 13 NJ Transit police officers were patrolling the Aberdeen-Matawan train station Wednesday morning, some holding their weapons and watching the trains. Officers were also present .

According to NJ Transit Spokesperson John Durso, Jr., Wednesday marked the beginning of a counter-terror and criminal deterrence effort entitled "BUSSAFE."

"NJ Transit police, in coordination with local and regional law enforcement agencies will be providing high uniformed police visibility across our systems today, bus and rail. The NJTPD's participation throughout the day will include increased inspections and patrols of terminals, facilities and bus garages," Durso, Jr. said.

The presence of police did not impact the train schedule.
