Police are searching for a man and a woman who allegedly flashed a handgun during the robbery of an Aberdeen home Wednesday night.

According to Police Chief John Powers, at about 5:20 p.m. two people knocked on the door of a Raritan Street home and asked the child who answered the door who was home. The pair then proceeded to enter the home without permission, Powers said.

The female stayed with the child while the male showed a handgun to an adult male resident while he robbed him of a backpack and pair of sneakers, according to police. According to Powers, the pair also fled with jewelry and a laptop.

The male is described as black, approximately six feet tall with facial hair, high cheekbones and connecting eyebrows. He was reportedly wearing camouflage pants at the time.

The female is described as black, approximately 5'5'' tall with long haird. She was reportedly wearing a multicolored shirt with a floral pattern.

P.O. Anthony Valentino was the responding officer and the investigation is being continued by Sgt. Hank Chevalier. Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to contact Chevalier at 732-566-2054.

Raritan Street is off of Cliffwood Avenue in the Clifwood Beach section of the township.

NRA members always carry an assault weapon when they answer the door of their home. The idea that anyone can defend their home with a weapon during a home invasion is naive. Too many guns. Its time to deal with that, not bring weapons to the threshhold.

How about a description of the robbers? Yeesh! Is the goal just to freak people out and leave out the important details?

We can only report what the police are able to release. This morning, they shared additional details about the robbery and the alleged suspects.

The description describes half of Cliffwood.. not really much help. Hope they catch them.. Its a damn shame that such a decent community is turning to crap.

It really is, Danielle. Thanks for the additional info, Chelsea.

Admittedly, in THIS case it's not likely that a gun would have been of much value to the "adult" present, because the "child" hasn't been trained properly regarding common sense rules about responding to someone knocking at the door in the first place. Unless the adult was actually holding the wapon when the kid let the criminals in the adult would simply not have been able to get to it- not quickly and safely anyhow. Home invasions are the crime of the future, except it's here today. Second only to car-jacking, it presents the greatest opportunity for armed criminals to go about their criminality UNOBSERVED. Patricia C. is on the money. So-called "gun control laws" will OBVIOUSLY not take guns from criminals, as they don't obey laws, no matter how many are written. Non-criminals deserve a fighting chance. Police cannot PREVENT this sort of crime. They come AFTER the crime has been committed. Sometimes it's up to you to take steps to protect yourself and your family.

The day I have to grab a gun before I open my front door is the day I start planning to move. I think the government should have gun buy back programs going on in every community all the time. The way the criminal who has a gun and needs money can walk legally sell their gun to the government instead of using it to rob someone. I just read that over 2000 people have died in gun related violence since the Newtown killings. The media should be reporting that kind of information every day.
