Police: Aberdeen Man Assaulted Walking on Sunset Way

A look at police activity in Aberdeen Township between July 24 and July 30 2013.

The Aberdeen Township Police Department responded to or initiated 337 calls for service between July 24 and July 30 2013, according to Chief John Powers. The incidents included 18 suspicious persons or vehicles, 15 alarms, 14 first aid calls, 14 motor vehicle crashes, seven thefts, one domestic violence incident, three disorderly persons, five noise complaints, one robbery and 160 motor vehicle stops. Officers also issued 116 motor vehicle summonses.

Theft, Shoplifting

An Old Bridge resident reported his wallet was stolen while he was shopping at A&P on Route 35. Officer John Young investigated.

Officer Darryl Richardson investigated a report of shoplifting at the Wawa on Route 35.

A Lakeshore Drive resident reported that personal items were stolen from her home on July 26. Officer John Zellar investigated.

Officer Vito Turchiano investigated a report of shoplifting at the ShopRite on Lloyd Road on July 27.

A bicycle belonging to an Elizabeth resident was reported stolen from the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station on Atlantic Avenue. Officer Gus Grivas took the report.

Fraud

A Prospect Avenue resident reported someone used his personal information to open a bank account on July 25. 

A Matawan Avenue resident reported the fraudulent use of his debt card on July 26. Officer Christopher DeSarno took the report.

Assault

A 21-year-old Matawan Avenue man reported he was assaulted while walking on Sunset way on July 25. His assailant, described as a black male dressed in a red shirt and pants, took his wallet, some cash and a debit card and fled on a bicycle. Officer John Young and Det. Louis Nanna investigated.

Careless Driving

Officer Michael Plant charged a 45-year-old Middletown woman with careless driving following a motor vehicle crash on Route 35 on July 27. 

Suspicious Person

Officer Martin Walsh took a suspicious persons report on Prospect Avenue on July 28.
