Police: 13-Year-Old Faces Charges After Crashing Car in Aberdeen

Police say the boy attempted to elude arrest near the Hazlet border on Thursday.

A 13-year-old Aberdeen boy was charged with eluding police after a car accident July 19 at the intersection of Lloyd Road and Gerard Avenue.

According to Chief of Police John Powers, at about 11:45 last night, P.O. Anthony Marone saw a 2010 Ford Focus pull out of a parking lot on Gaston Street without headlights.

Marone attempted to stop the car, but the driver sped away turning onto Geran Street, then onto Broadway in Keyport, Powers said.

The car approached the intersection of Lloyd Road and Gerard Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection. As the car turned right onto Gerard, the driver failed to navigate the turn, struck a tree and overturned the car, Powers said. The car came to rest on it's roof.

The driver, identified as a 13-year-old township boy, sustained a mouth injury but refused medical treatment. The vehicle is registered to the boy’s father.
