Person Struck by Train Near Aberdeen-Matawan NJ Transit Station
The male victim was taken to the hospital following the incident.
A person was struck and injured by a New Jersey Transit train as it entered the Aberdeen-Matawan Station at about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to NJT Spokeswoman Nancy Snyder.
About 125 passengers were on board the train, which was traveling along the North Jersey Coast Line toward New York City, according to Snyder. No one on board reported injuries and were transferred to another train.
Witnesses report seeing the victim near the tracks as the train approached, according to Snyder.
"Eye witness accounts indicate the trespasser was hiding behind a junction box along the railroad's right of way and jumped in front of the train as it approached the station," she said.
The victim is "alive and being attended to by medical personnel," she said.
Information regarding the male victim's identity, age or current medical condition has not been released.
New Jersey Transit Police are continuing the investigation.
At this time there are no reported train delays on the North Jersey Coast Line.
