Pair Face Charges in Matawan Armed Robbery
Yusuf A. Francis and Calvin Pierce allegedly wielded a handgun during a June robbery.
Two men will stand trial on armed robbery charges in connection with a June 12, 2013 incident in Matawan.
A grand jury handed up indictments against Yusuf A. Francis, 21, of Keyport and Calvin Pierce, 23, of Matawan on Thursday.
According to prosecutors, Francis and Pierce threatened an unnamed person with a handgun and broke into the individual’s car.

Francis and Pierce each face one count of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and burglary. Pierce faces an additional charge of certain persons not permitted to have a weapons because of a previous aggravated assault conviction in May 2010. Pierce was indicted earlier this year on heroin possession and distribution charges in connection with a May 2012 incident.
